Knowing that вЂњSmashy Road: WantedвЂќ is simultaneously a game and art, I gained a deeper appreciation for the game and more importantly videogames in general. For instance, вЂњSmashy Road: WantedвЂќ is considered as art because it takes something prevalent in reality, high speed chases, and put it in a videogame.

More so, according to Celia Pearce in HjorthвЂ™s book, The art of Games Machinima and the Limits of Art Games, she states that вЂњart games may be viewed as a collision between the worlds of art and video games (Hjorth 131).вЂќ The author is trying to convey that videogames, which have a relationship with the real world, are considered as game art. Thus, the moving pictures of the high-speed chase are an example of time-related artwork. Other than being a game, вЂњSmashy Road: WantedвЂќ is also a piece of media art because the video game utilizes time-related artwork which is work that changes and вЂњmovesвЂќ, unlike older art that is static and stands still.

Since this videogame has a вЂњvariable and quantifiable outcomeвЂќ where the player can either loose with minimal points and chaos, or maximum points and chaos. вЂњA game is a rule-based system with a variable and quantifiable outcome, where different outcomes are assigned different values, the player exerts effort in order to influence the outcome, the player feels emotionally attached to the outcome, and the consequences of the activity are negotiable (Juules, 36).вЂќ Nonetheless, вЂњSmashy Road:WantedвЂќ is unquestionably a game because it falls under Jesper JuulвЂ™s definition of a game, which is: Unfortunately, since the cars are randomly selected, the videogame often reselects a car that youвЂ™ve already unlocked despite that youвЂ™ve collected the $100 because it is a matter of luck. Consequently, forcing consumers like me to procrastinate on my homework so that I can unlock the next vehicle. Last but not least, the challenging videogame motivates the player by randomly rewarding them with one of the sixty cars every time he/she collects $100 dollars. The longer the player drives around the city smashing fences, cars, and collecting money the higher their score will be. Nonetheless, thanks to Apple we are able to appreciate such videogames as games and art.ДЇor the past two weeks IвЂ™ve been playing RK Games Studio videogame, вЂњSmashy Road: WantedвЂќ, and its been a blast! This simple fast-paced videogame places the player inside of a car, which smashes around the city trying to escape from the police whilst causing a wreck along the way. This videogames puts the player in a tense situation where they are involved in an inner-city police speed chase that doesnвЂ™t end until the playerвЂ™s either busted or wasted. In my opinion, AppleвЂ™s iOs operating system has done a phenomenal job at sponsoring high-resolution video games such as вЂњSmashy Road: WantedвЂќ. As videogame players we like when video games put us on the edge of our seats because it brings a little excitement into our day.
